Educating young people and spreading financial literacy is very important to us at BrightStar CU. That’s why we started CU@School, BrightStar’s financial literacy program for students. The program has been implemented in several schools and was approved by the School Board of Broward County. CU@School includes in-school, student-run credit union branches, financial literacy presentations and career day participation. Students learn hands-on about personal finance, the importance of saving, how to set goals and how to budget. BrightStar, founded by teachers in 1946, has been a partner with Broward Schools for nearly 65 years.
Here are two video clips featuring faculty at Taravella High School discussing BrightStar’s CU@School program.
BrightStar Credit Union congratulates the 44 Broward County Public Schools students who have been named semifinalists in the 2011 National Merit Scholarship Program. Merit Scholarship designees are selected on the basis of their skills, accomplishments and potential for success in rigorous college studies. The 44 students are among more than 1.5 million high school juniors in more than 22,000 U.S. high schools who entered the 2011 Merit Program by taking the PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. Congratulations to the semifinalists and GOOD LUCK! For more information, visit the Broward County Public Schools website here.

Travel back in time with BrightStar & Colonial Williamsburg. For the eighth year in a row BrightStar Credit Union has sponsored the Colonial Williamsburg Electronic Field Trips for Broward Schools. Colonial Williamsburg offers a series of 7 EFTs throughout the school year, broadcast monthly from October through April. The program includes the EFT, plus curriculum and educational materials to be used in classrooms. Normally, the cost for each school to participate in the EFTs would be $500, but with BrightStar’s support, enrollment is free for the first 40 schools which register. The sponsorship is limited to Broward County elementary and middle schools. Other schools may qualify as well on a first come-first served basis.
Registering for the Electronic Field Trips begins TODAY September 1, 2010.
To register, please download the PDF form from our website www.bscu.org/history and fax it to Colonial Williamsburg for processing. Remember, registration is limited to 40 schools and will automatically be closed once 40 schools have signed up. So jump on board and take a historical trip back in time to meet and greet famous people like George Washington and Thomas Jefferson!
