Meet Lazslo Nagy, Finalist for Broward Schools’ Teacher of the Year
Lazslo Nagy, Western High School
Today’s star teacher is Lazslo Nagy, from Western High School. Stay tuned next week as we continue to spotlight more teachers leading up to the Broward Schools Teacher of the Year winner announcement on February 16th.
Students are engaged in a learning community the minute they step inside Lazsio Nagy’s AP Calculus classroom at Western High School. They are engulfed in a learning environment where the fundamentals are taught to ensure the understanding of the concepts. Nagy focuses on delivering the highest quality instruction under any circumstances, and he never lets time constraints or difficult testing methods stand in the way of his students’ successes. He provides extensive support to students by conducting after school workshops and Saturday practice testing, so they are prepared for the rigorous testing that takes place in an AP class. By continuously showing his students what they need to know and how the information they learn is used, Nagy builds confident and self-assured students who can take on any math test with no fear.
Nagy uses technology in his lessons, and believes in the participation of the parents. Starting with the first day of class, he begins to build relationships with the parents of his students. His students’ first assignment is to have their parents provide their contact information. Nagy always gives parents his E-mail address and responds to any questions or concerns within 24 hours. He provides parents with daily notes via E-mail, so they stay current with the needs of their student. He provides his students with support, encouragement and direction to allow them to adjust to the changing needs of the community and succeed in life.
Thank you, Lazslo, for the good work that you do. Congratulations and good luck!
