As the physical education teacher at Hallandale High School, Frederica Carter’s philosophy is to serve as the compass that gives direction to her students’ learning. It is very important to her that she focus on every student in the learning process. The positive impact she makes on her students is her greatest success. By mixing students of all needs and educational levels in one lesson, Carter can tap into their different learning styles and form activities that build team players and tolerant members of society.
Carter establishes a culture of respect for diversity among her students to ensure not only the strength of their bodies, but also their minds. She challenges her students daily to work together, learn from each other and understand the importance of their physical health. She believes it is important that students get the support they need to become self-confident and educated individuals. Not only is she teaching her students health facts and athletic skills, she is teaching cooperation, leadership, and how to find and use resources to learn and succeed. Carter strives to create top-notch students, who will make a positive imprint on their communities. Carter is the compass that gives direction to her students’ learning and it shows through her efforts every day.
